Atkins Diet

Have any of you ever tried the Atkins (Low-Carb) diet? Jono, Joe's brother, was dieting and working out for a month and a half and lost 10 pounds, then he started Atkins and lost 15 pounds in a week. (Maybe I have those weights backwards??) Anyway, I was sold! So, Friday night I started it. Let me tell you...I felt like I was STARVING all weekend, even though I think I was eating constantly. At one point I told Joe, "I'm starving...I want to eat a whole loaf of bread!" He just laughed at me and told me that maybe this wasn't the best diet for me. When I was at the Dairman's for Sunday dinner I said something to Charlotte, Joe's mom, about being so hungry and she told me that Jono has felt hungry the whole time too. That stinker!! He didn't tell me that when I asked him about it!!!
So, the good news is that I have lost 7 pounds since Friday. The bad news is that it costs a lot more money to eat this way. I was at Walgreen's for a Rx the other day and found some Atkins bars...they were 3 for $7, but I was STARVING so I bought 3. Holy crap!! They were soooo gross, disgusting, BAD!!! Every time I thought about it I would taste that crap again, for the rest of the day! Do you know how much food I could get at Taco Bell for $7??!!!
Obviously, I'm not a very good dieter...it affects my mood too much...have you ever seen a post with so many !!!'s? Plus, I ran out of eggs at home, so I had some cheese for breakfast, and that sucked!! But, at 7 lbs/4 days I guess I could do this for a few more weeks. AAARGH!!

I've tried the Atkins diet two times in my life, and both times it was the most miserable experience ever. The only reason I did it a second time was because it actually worked the first time and five years had passed so the memory of the misery had faded somewhat. The second time I did it the stupid diet didn't even work. I'd definitely opt for a healthy diet/exercise option over Atkins any day.

I just laughed at your post, I'm sorry. I have tried it and it sucked!!!!! Just be careful once you go off it you will gain the weight back and maybe more. Thats why I only did it once. It works, but at a price.

Don't do Atkins! Carbs are good for your body (just not whole loaves of bread or bowls of pasta!)...we need them! Are you going to stay on Atkins for the rest of your life? No? Then don't do it. Even if you loose a bunch of weight....like Jill said, what happens when you go off it?! Just my opinion...take it or leave it.

PS: Love your new background!

I too love your new background! I don't know any of the others that commented but I do agree with them wholeheartedly! Exercise and a balanced diet (protein, veggies, fruits and WHOLE GRAINS) is the only way to go. It will change your life and the weight will come off like it should. That way you won't have to worry about it coming back when you stop "dieting"! Good luck! :)

I lost 25 lbs in a month on this diet a few years ago! I laughed so hard at this! I know what you are going through. I love bread so it is hard but worth it. I kept it off for a year and then I got pregnant. This diet is the reason I HATE eggs now! Good job on the 7lbs! Thats awesome. I like quick results. I will eat taco bell for you! I like to say I cant diet cause im nursing.............

A low-carb diet like Atkins seems to work for me ... until I either get constipated from the lack of fiber, or I get nauseated every time even look at another piece of meat. Nevertheless, I am trying low-carb again.

I would just ditto to most of the other comments. Everyone I know that has done Atkins has gained it back. It's also bad on your organs, too much protein. Be careful!
